Acai Berries
Acai berries are inch-long reddish, purple fruit, which comes from the acai palm tree and is native to Central and South America. It has long been the staple diet of the tribes in the Amazon. Research on the acai berry has focused on its antioxidant activity. Acai berries contain several substances called anthocyanins and flavonoids. Anthocyanins are also found
red wine.
Both anthocyanins and flavonoids are powerful antioxidants, which defend the body against free radicals and protect the body’s cells. Oxidative stress can lead to heart disease and cancer. The ORAC rating of acai is 18, 500 compared to blueberries, which is 2,400 (based on 100gm or 3.5 ounces). ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity and is a method of measuring antioxidant capacities in biological samples in vitro. Look for freeze dried fruit or non-pasteurized juice as these forms retain their nutrients.
Coconuts
Young
coconuts
or green coconuts are one of the highest sources of electrolytes found in nature. Electrolytes are ionized salts found in our cells such as potassium and sodium. The molecular make-up of coconut water is identical to human blood plasma. Because of this the young coconut water is superior to commercial sports drinks. When you drink the water of green coconuts it’s like giving yourself a blood transfusion. It was a common practice in the Pacific during World War II to give wounded soldiers coconut water for an emergency transfusion. The reason older coconuts aren’t used is because the meat is very hard and they have little if any water. Young coconuts can be found in Asian or Mexican markets. Buy green coconuts online:

Raw Cacao
Raw cacao is sold as a superfood, but I’m not including it on my page because my research has uncovered some questions to its safety. It’s been found to be toxic to the liver and its oils are hard to digest.
